The P990 will be the first commercially available smartphone to adopt the enhanced Symbian OS version 9.1 and UIQ 3 software platform. This flagship UMTS smartphone is Wi-Fi enabled, has a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and features a new hardware keyboard beneath the flip-down keypad. The phone will start shipping during Q1 of 2006.

The P990 is the next in a line of successful Sony Ericsson smartphones - the P800, P900 and P910 ?and is based on the same proven concept and recognisable form factor. All have been popular with users, operators and software developers thanks to their powerful productivity features. Operator feedback and download statistics from the Sony Ericsson Application Shop have shown that consumers, both business and personal, are interested in using their smartphones to the fullest potential. Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) can be as high as 4 to 5 times that of more traditional voice-centric mobiles.

To ensure a large proportion of applications are available on the new Symbian and UIQ software platform when the P990 goes on sale, Sony Ericsson has decided to announce the smartphone well in advance of availability so that developers have time to create and certify as many applications as possible.

As with its predecessors, the P990 is designed to be first and foremost a great mobile phone. It also offers all the benefits of UMTS including video calling, high-bandwidth multi-media downloads and the ability to browse the Internet with full HTML pages. These are viewed in landscape on the new Opera 8 browser. In addition, the P990 is prepared for all major push e-mail clients enabling full e-mail access with attachments, anywhere, anytime.

The P990 has multiple text input methods enabling it to support all users?needs and preferences. Writing e-mails is made easier by the new hardware keyboard positioned beneath the flip-down keypad on the main body of the phone. Reading them is made simpler on the large 2.8 inch QVGA touch screen. Multi tasking ?being able to browse the Internet, send and receive files at the same time as talking ?is now possible due to the enhanced capabilities of the new software platform.

Memory has been extended in order to handle all multi-media downloads and e-mail attachments. Memory Stick PRO Duo up to 4GB will be available in the market at launch and the P990 now has up to 80 MB user free memory. A 64 MB Memory Stick PRO Duo is included in the box, preloaded with a VPN client and trial version of a virus scan package.

The combination of UMTS and WLAN features will also significantly improve the efficiency and flexibility of applications such as e-mail, browsing the Internet/Intranet and video telephony. WLAN, available in hot spots all over the world, acts as a complement to high speed 3G services, enabling widespread access to corporate network services.

Other new features include automatic time zone change to the Calendar diary and updated PC sync software with extended synchronization possibilities. Additionally the 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus, digital zoom, photo light plus the bright TFT screen and video recording provide a high quality imaging experience.

The P990 will be commercially available in Q1 2006. The variants will be:

The Sony Ericsson G700 rocks a 3.2 megapixel camera with red-eye reduction and digital image stabilization, as well as video recording. A Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot, FM radio and support for Sony Ericsson,s PlayNow music store make the G700 a great music handset, also.

Sony Ericsson has added a new line, the G series, which starts with the Symbian UIQ based G900, a candybar handset sporting a 2.4" QVGA touchscreen, along with 160MB of internal memory and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot.

The Sony Ericsson G900 is not shy on the camera front, packing a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, digital image stabilization, red-eye reduction, and facial recognition. A neat feature is the ability to touch the screen to indicate the focus point of a picture, for those that enjoy taking more artsy photographs.

The Opera web browser comes pre-installed, and the Sony Ericsson G900 also features an FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP stereo and support for Sony Ericsson,s PlayNow music store. How to update your SE phone

Each Sony Ericsson phone has an inbuilt software and these softwares gets updated with lot of fixes for bugs and enhancements. But when the new version of software is released, how do you update the software? In this post I will discuss how to update the firmware or Software of your Sony Ericsson phone.

Requirements:

Java Runtime Environment .
Sony Ericsson PC Suite which is available in the CD or you can download from SE website.
Sony Ericsson Update Service or SEUS Software.
Drivers for your phone which is available in the CD provided with the phone
Flash player

After you install all the software, run the SEUS software. First it will check for any updates. First time when SEUS is used, the animation screen stays for some time. Next you get a screen where you need to select the language you want to display. Now your phone is ready for update and click start to update the phone.

Next you will be prompted to select the type of connection and for this you need to see the bottom of the phone. Select the proper connection type.

Next you have to accept the terms and conditions for updating. Once you accept you will be taken to the main update screen shown below.

Please follow the instruction very carefully. Your battery needs to be charged fully. Turn off the phone, remove the SIM card and replace the battery. Now press and hold C button on your phone and plug the USB cable to the phone.

Once you get this screen, you can release the C button. Your phone will be detected by the software and it will mention the latest software version the phone is currently using and the updates available. If there is no update available, there will be an option to continue, otherwise select the update and proceed. Once you select this, the phone starts updating. Please do not touch the phone while updating as any connection issues with USB will lead to failure of update.

Finally when the update is finished you get this screen.

You can now unplug the USB and your phone is updated with the latest software.Done!

The much anticipated flagship of the Walkman series, the W910i slider. The model is obviously remarkable for its looks, since it��s one of the thinnest music phones within its class.

The stylish body has all the latest SE developments inside - both Shake Control and SenseMe, which will be thoroughly reviewed a little way down in the article, these are really fascinating features that SE can for sure be proud of. In addition to that, the sales package includes a Bluetooth headset, a whole 1 Gb flash card and even a card reader! The novelty is based off the latest revision of the A200 software platform and comes supplied with an integrated motion sensor. All this summed up gives us one of the most intriguing premieres of the season.

Price often serves as the most convincing criterion for picking a phone, and it��s true that W910 is slightly overpriced as it appears upon the first glance - the features stuffed inside are mostly on an average level (including the somewhat plain camera) save for a few top class features. If there��s an explanation to this fact, that would be a lame excuse: statistically the average price of SE phones is the highest, so the only thing that��s left to do is to inspect the device more closely finding out whether it has to offer something worthy of shelling out the godless price. The Sony Ericsson C702 is the new junior Cyber-shot phone, featuring a decent 3.2 mega pixel camera with auto focus and face detection, as well as a revamped user interface compared to the K550, which seems to be its predecessor. When announced, the C702 was officially the first GPS-enabled phone by Sony Ericsson, adding the ability to geo-tag your photos, when connected to GPS satelites. To further enhance the C702�s camera abilities, Sony Ericsson got the C702 IP54-certified, meaning it is more or less dust proof and splash resistant from all angles. This will enable photography enthusiasts to take photos in more extreme conditions than previously possible.

The C702 is available on most markets in Cyan Blue and Speed Black colour trimmings. Both designs are quite different from what we�ve seen by Sony Ericsson in the past, but to tell you the truth, I actually do like the design of the C702 quite a lot. The materials used are rather nice, and especially the textured back feels nice to touch. It�s impossible to put fingerprints on the blue and grey casing, and only the area around the display can be smudged with your busy fingers. The backside cover is held in place by a rather annoying lock near the bottom. Although it does its job very well, it�s extremely hard - if not impossible - to open it without the use of a screwdriver, credit card or alike. Just below the battery cover, hides a standard BST-33 (950 mAh Li-Pol) battery, which seems like a decent performing battery, giving you about 3-4 days of use.
In the other end, we�ll find the camera and a very nice camera lens cover, that nicely slides down and back up again, ended with a lovely click-sound. Above the lens cover is a dual LED, that doubles as a flash light, when not used by the camera.

When held in hand, the C702 feels a lot lighter than it looks, weighing in at 105 grams, and I�m actually very impressed by the build quality. Absolutely nothing creaks, or fells misfitting - that�s the way, it�s supposed to be! C702 measures 106 x 48 x 15.5 millimetres, and even though 15.5 millimetres doesn�t look like much, it feels a bit thicker in real life, especially as it�s laying on my desk right now with the thin G700 and G900 smart phones just inches from it. The keypad is nicely backlit with a rather interesting-looking blue colour, which looks cool in the evening. Speaking of the keypad, it provides average tactile feedback. The alphanumeric keypad is a bit too soft for my liking, and you�ll sometimes question whether you actually hit the key or not. The soft keys, however, provide a very nice tactile feedback, with only the navigation d-pad being a little awkward to use.

The 2.2 inch TFT display located on the upper front is well saturated, and photos look bright and colour on it. While it works very well indoors, it�s not the best outdoors. I had a hard time navigating the dark theme I had set. If you�re worried about the display�s legibility while using it as a navigational unit or for your sports tracking, don�t worry. Both applications are very bright, and they can be viewed without any problems even in direct sunlight.

The Sony Ericsson R306 / R306a brings plenty of music features to the table. This small clamshell features a built-in AM/FM radio and stereo loudspeakers, so that the whole neighborhood knows you,re jamming out.

The R306 offers the ability to record radio broadcasts, though the phone,s 5MB of internal memory will run out quickly. But at least you can easily use a snippet of recorded radio as a ringtone, or use Sony Ericsson,s Track ID application to get information about a particular music track. The R306,s 1.3 megapixel camera also records video, so you,ll be able to easily record musical moments as they happen.

The Sony Ericsson R306 / R306a is planned to be available in Q2 2008 in coffee black or champagne white color schemes. Pricing and intended markets have not been announced, though Sony Ericsson says that the device is perfect for emerging markets like India.
